The 2010 British Open Championship (one of four majors) will soon be underway. It is scheduled to begin July 15th and conclude, July 18th. Most of golf’s best professionals will be on hand to compete for this year’s title. Among this year’s participants will be Tiger Woods. He won the event the last two times it was played on Old Course, 2000 and 2005. In 2000, Woods blasted the course record, winning with a score of 19 under par.
This year, Woods is the favorite at BetUS with +250 odds. The odds for last year’s winner, Padraig Harrington are +1400. The odds for notable players Rory Mcllroy, Ernie Els, Phil Nickelson and Lee Westwood are +1200. The remaining field have been given odds of 25/1 odds or better for this golf betting event.
2010 will be the 28th year that the British Open is being played on Old Course at St. Andrews, Fife, Scotland. It is played there every five years in large part due to its storied gold history. There have been some recent changes made to the course. Since 2005, there has been a tee added at hole 17, which has in effect, lengthened it by 40 yards.
Because this is the British Open, betting on the action is a pretty popular in the United Kingdom. In fact, this is one of the events most wagered on in the U.K.
Though Tiger Woods is the favorite at most British Open betting sites, he definitely has doubters. The recent scandal coupled with his shaky play of late, has some people doubting whether or not he can rekindle the magic and dominate like he used to. Though he has shown some of those flashes of brilliance many know him for, he has been unable to put together a solid tournament since he took time off after having admitted to having domestic problems. Woods has returned but has yet to find his footing and regain his form of old. Perhaps this year’s 2010 Open will be the event to help turn things around.
